Title: GUIDE: How to update your JTAG/RGH Xbox 360 kernel/dashboard using xeBuild GUI
Post by: Swizzy on 18 November 2012 à 12:35:56
Ok, since there are lot's of guides, all having different methods out there, i figured i would make an "official" update guide, the tools i make are aimed at making it as simple as possible, yet ppl have trouble understanding lot's of things, and some ppl just do stupid things despite having it all right infront of you in my tools... right, let's get started shall we? :D

** NOTE: This guide is a combined effort of me and Razkar! :D **

First of all you'll want to download xeBuild GUI Version 2.098 (http://www.homebrew-connection.org/files/xbox/nand_builder/xeBuild_GUI/dl_xeBuild_GUI_2.098.rar) (or later (http://www.homebrew-connection.org/files/xbox/nand_builder/xeBuild_GUI/))

Step 1) Dumping Your NAND
If you already have a dump of your nand on your computer you can skip this step, however i highly recommend you do this to be safe ;)

Step 2) Get your CPUKey
Get your CPUKey, there are several methods you can use to do this below i'll show you some of 'em:

If you need an explanation of the xell output check out the picture
Show content
(http://www.homebrew-connection.org/imgs/xeBuildGUITut/cpukey_ip_marked.png) (http://www.homebrew-connection.org/imgs/xeBuildGUITut/cpukey_ip_marked.png)

If you're going to be using XeLL for this, XeLL is usually started by using the eject button, however it can be other methods aswell, which i'm not going to go into details about here as most people have it set to eject (this is the default setting)

If you haven't done so already, load your NAND now in xeBuild GUI (if you dumped this will be "flashdmp.bin")!

Step 3) Verify the CPUKey
Once you have your CPU Key, use the check KV feature to be sure, your key is the correct one for the selected image
NOTE: This step isn't supported for 4GB corona consoles untill i release version 3.0
Show content
if you get an error simply doublecheck your cpukey since this is the most common reason for an error message with this function ;)

(http://www.homebrew-connection.org/imgs/corona/T-corona7.png) (http://www.homebrew-connection.org/imgs/corona/T-corona7.png)

Step 4) Check your settings
Now you will want to make sure all the settings are correct for your console

Before you continue, also check the output path!

Step 5) Build the nand
Now we are ready to build the new image, simply press "Generate hacked image" (the big button near the bottom)
If the button is greyed out like in the screenshots check the bottom row indicating "Current status:" this will aid you in checking what is wrong (what information is missing)
Title: Finalizing the update
Post by: Swizzy on 18 November 2012 à 12:36:35
Step 6) Flash your nand
Once you have your nand freshly builded, you can flash it to your xbox, there is several way :

Step 7) Verifying kernel version
Now you want to check that you wrote the correct image to your console and that it boots properly

Step 8) Installing the Avatar Data
NOTE: You may have to launch something in order to get the prompt to update! (2.0.16197.0 and higher requires this)
Special information for Kinect users
Show content
Your kinect might need to be updated aswell, to do this all you have to do is run the avatar update described above with your Kinect connected, if you do this all at once you'll first be asked to update your console, after reboot you'll be asked to update your device (kinect), simply accept it and your kinect firmware should be updated to latest version!

If you have never used your kinect (a.k.a. bought a brand new one) you'll be asked to update aswell, same as above^ ;)

Hi,

I try to update my Xbox Glitch BUT I get some issue...

To explain quickly, I get a Kinect for XMas, so I would like to update my Xbox Glitch...

I successfully flash my NAND to V.2.0.16202, When I check in system parameters, I can see:

DashBoard: 2.0.16202
Kernel: 2.0.16202

...So I assume that NAND's update is OK BUT when I plug my Kinect, I get an information windows which inform me that I require an update (Only OK as choice).

I've copied update 16202 on my USB Key and tried to update BUT NOTHING happen, no window which ask me for update.

I've tried:

- Copy all the update files on the USB Root >> Nothing happen!
- Get all files in "$Systemupdate" >> Nothing happen!
- Get all files in "$$ystemupdate" >> Nothing happen!
- Desactivate option which block updates in Dash Launch >> Still Nothing!!

I can try to plug my USB Key in all USB Port OR before starting the console OR with console already started,....etc BUT still no windows which appear for update.

Any idea to help me to solve the problem?!

Thanks in advance for support

I Think you need The Kinect Drivers. You can install the Kinnect Driver from an Kinect
Game DVD.

greets.

This is a 16k+ dash problem, what you need to do is start any game/app or whatever once you've started with the usb stick, or plug it in after you've started...

I also test to insert an original DVD which require Kinect with the USB Plugged...the update has start, from the USB key (because I've seen the USB Key binking) BUT when I restart the console, I get again the same windows (only with OK) and when I launch Official dashboard, I get a message about corrupted file...then I get a rebbot AND now, If I insert the Kinect game (original) the game is Launching BUT Kinect don't seems to be recognize (as I can't calibrate it...I get the Windows which told me to instal driver for Kinect)

What was the name of the update folder when you updated?
Are you 100% sure ALL files are on the memory? (how much space does it have left?)
What settings did you have in dashlaunch?
Have you tried unloading dashlaunch and running the update? (do this with the installer)

I've tried $SystemUpdate and $$ystemUpdate

Are you 100% sure ALL files are on the memory? (how much space does it have left?)

You mean on the USB Key?
I assume yes...size is around 146Mo

What settings did you have in dashlaunch?

I have tried with "Noupdate" activate and desactivate

Have you tried unloading dashlaunch and running the update? (do this with the installer)

How should I do this?

Download the latest dashlaunch installer, press RB untill you see a unload button, click on that and try to update =)

By size you mean free space with the update? or?

I'va already tried by unloading dashlaunch but nothing change.

I've just discovered one thing:

IF I try to launch XexMenu or an orignal DVD WITH the USB Key plugged, USB Key Led start to blink and then I get a window which inform me that the disc is not readable.
If I try the same thing w/o the USB key, the game or XexMenu is launching....

Is this ok:

Hello. I'm having a silly problem that I can't seem to figure out. I have a 16mb RGH Jasper. Current dash is 14719. Everything works in xebuild, but the problem I'm having is that it's output is an .ecc file, not .bin. Either I can't grasp how this is done, or I've missed a setting or something like that. The fact that it's currently 3 o'clock in the morning doesn't help either :) I've tried googling the problem, but it seems to me that .ecc files are only needed when RGH'ing a console. Please advise.

You should select Freeboot, not ECC ;) (xeBuild GUI doesn't select that automatically if you manually type in the cpukey, and load a retail nand)

Hi there, thanks for this in-depth detailed tutorial. It's easy to follow.
However, I'm got some question regarding my CPU key which I obtained through System Info menu in Dashlaunch 3.04.
I've noticed that my CPU key is short of 1 character (only have 31 characters which, normally from what I've read about it, it should be 32 characters).
When I'm enter my CPU key in XeBuild GUI v2.089, it pop-up "Error: Invalid Input - to short".
I've checked it over again & again. But it does shows only 31 characters in Dashlaunch. (too bad I unable to screen shot it)
I'm not a noob, I've used to did this for my other RGH 'PHAT' consoles.
Currently I'm on Xbox Slim Corona V2 (4GB). Just kinda strange & wonder why my CPU key is short of 1 character.
Though, as I'm googling around, there is no information on this.
Hopes able to get some input from you.
Thanks again for this nice tutorial. Cheers.

Try using Simple 360 NAND Flasher 1.3, i think i may know where the problem is... i'll notify cOz and see if i'm right about it...

Anyways, the cpukey should ALWAYS be 32 characters, what i think the problem is that there is a missing 0 somewhere (you may try to add a 0 before each character if you like untill you find where it's missing... but... xD

** edit: **

To be clear i talk about this: http://www.homebrew-connection.org/simple-nand-flasher-1-3-beta-by-swizzy-automatic-mode-added/ (http://www.homebrew-connection.org/simple-nand-flasher-1-3-beta-by-swizzy-automatic-mode-added/)

it have built in CPUKey extraction, using the same method as Dashlaunch (to aquire the key, in a byte array) it's then converted to a hex string and written to cpukey.txt along with printing to screen/log you should be able to use the cpukey.txt file to get your full cpukey...

Huge thanks for the quick reply with possible solution.
I will definitely try this new version as you suggested then I'm will post back the results/feedback/bugs/problems here.
It is grateful to finally have someone point me to a correct direction since there is no information on the internet regarding this. I've tried refer this issues to several other websites/forums but no useful feedback & most of them replied me in kinda rude way.
Again, thank you very much for replying. Will post result here soon I've try it. Cheers..

First of the most, thanks for your suggestion on using the Simple Nand Flasher 1.3 to retrieve full CPU key.
Now, finally, I'm able to retrieve my full CPU key and finally able to update the dashboard/kernel to latest version (16202).
Just a note, it was the final last character that were missing & not showing up in Dashlaunch 3.04.
In my case, that missing character appear to be number "9".
Still wonder why Dashlaunch 3.04 not showing the full CPU key in my case though.

Just a simple feedback, the Simple Nand Flasher 1.3 works like charm & the Automode is a great addition.
It dump the nand in only 50+ seconds (very fast) whereas the version 1.2 took about 130+ seconds dumping the nand.
So again, thanks for all the simple, yet, useful & handy tools which, of course, created by you.
Huge thanks for the helping & suggestion.  ;)

I know it's probably to late now, but could you take a picture with a regular digital camera, or a cellphone perhaps of Dashlaunch info screen? it'd probably help out quite a bit in finding the bug, it could be that the text field is just to short... or something, i don't know... it should actually display it for you, but for some reason it doesn't :(

** edit: **

Oh... about the speed increase, it's most likely your memories... i know that on internal HDD it's ALOT faster then on usb... and tbh, i haven't changed anything in how it read/write nands :P

Also, thanks for the warm words =) i make these tools primarily because i use them myself on a almost daily basis xD

I wonder if anyone here could give me a hand. I have what I believe is a falcon xbox (it came up in xebuild as falcon/opus and since I have hdmi I assumed falcon) jtagged with kernal version 2.0.14699.0 and fsd 2.2. I dumped my nand and opened it in xebuild and built my new nand but when I updated my xbox I got the E79 error. I took my nand dump and renamed it updflash.bin and loaded it from xell reloaded and restored to my previous settings. I can't figure out why I can't update though. I'd like to update to the newest dash. I believe it may have something to do with the fact that I'm jtagged and maybe I picked the incorrect smc hack wiring I chose normal smc hack as per xebuild recommendation. I didn't do my jtag but when I had my xbox apart it had two wires and a jumper on top of the board (nothing underneath) and one of the wires went to the board on the front next to the Ring of Light. Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

it started xell still? if so the smc is a-ok, the problem is probably related to a badblock...

I got such excellent help last time I thought I'd try and ask another question. My last 360 that I had the issues updating with and you helped me out with got an E74 so I went out and got a new RGH Slim. My question is it's a Corona and after reading the few warnings about Corona I thought I would ask before trying to update to make sure it's ok to use XEbuild-Gui 2.09. It's on 16202 and I'd like to update to 16203. I used the hard drive from my last console so I believe dashlaunch is behind and was causing issues with FSD freezing (Only my hypothesis as it worked well with xexmenu). I've decided I should just update everything at once using your GUI. Then re-install FSD. Thanks for any help anyone can provide. Swizzy helped me out quite a lot last time.

What model of corona is it? there's 2 major types (16MB ones and 4GB ones)

The 4GB ones may have issues if the internal memory is used, might also be caused by other things, such as installation and such... i have a 4GB corona that isn't working atm myself, i just haven't had time to spend on fixing it lately xD

16MB Coronas are updateable same was as any other... but 4GB corona might have issues with the MU region of it (built in memory unit)

The only "problem" with coronas is that you don't see anything on screen when starting xell...

I'm not sure which I have. I know the guy told me that it was weird that there was no 4GB memory on mine but I don't know if he screwed something up or he didn't know there were 16mb models. I'll have to go home and see if I can access xell tonight. I never tried it since I got the new one. I'm on 16202 but don't know what dashlaunch I have. Should it matter if my dashlaunch isn't right up to date? If it does than maybe I will try to update everything at once, the dashlaunch & 16203.
Thanks for all the help. Would I just need to use the online feature to check for my key if I can't see xell? I guess I would know my ip.

It's probably that you didn't have a HDD in it, and he's used to Trinity or something i guess?

Anyways, as it is right now 16202 will do you fine, you don't need 16203, and you'll have dashlaunch 3.06 i think, i don't think 3.05 supports 16202 (i might remember wrong tho) etheir way, you can just run the installer if you like and it'll tell you which version is currently running and there are no games or so that requires 16203 or higher yet...

Great tut!

Thanks for the help, but I seem to have run into a snag, I think. After flashing the new firmware, I get no text anywhere. I have a menu, I can load games, etc but I dont see any text.  I downloaded the Avatar update information and prepared my USB drive (it made a $SystemUpdate folder). When I put in the drive and boot the 360 (Falcon/Opus, RGH v1) I get the new menu system, but still no text. And I'm not told to update.

I changed the folder name to $$ystemUpdate and the same thing happened. I tried to run a game with the USB inserted into my system, but I wasn't asked to update. If I remove the USB and reboot the system, I can get back to FSD and whatnot, but I still get no text.

What did I do wrong?

EDIT: I was able to get the update installed. So that's all fine and good. No idea what was happening, but it's working now. I still do not get any text though! It's very strange. I've reinstalled FSD3 a couple of times and even removed what I could from the install directory. It wouldn't let me delete a couple of .db files in the Data/Databases folder though.

That would indicate a write error, try flashing your nand again, maybe using a different usb memory?

OK, tried flashing again w a different USB drive and I got the same thing :(

I noticed while flashing it said a certain block seemed bad, and it had an status (error?) of 0x00000004 or something like that. I even rebuilt the updflash.bin again, and it had no errors while doing it.  Not sure if it would help, but here's my xeBuild_GUI.log:

That would be an ECC error, i'll make a special version of Simple 360 NAND Flasher for you which will fully erase the nand before writing anything, will take me a few days due to some other things... if you don't wanna wait for it, you can erase your nand with nandpro (using hardware) and then write the image over it...

Swizzy, thanks for the offer man! I dont know how long your reply was there, I truly didn't see it until just now. I had bookmarked the thread and it only ever showed me 3 pages.

At any rate, again I totally appreciate the offer, but I did finally get it taken care of. I'm not exactly sure why i got a bad NAND write, but I kept getting the bad block error several times.  I was able to build another hacked image with JRunner, and then flashed it with NAND Flasher 360 (rather than 360 NAND Flasher) and it worked, so my 360 is back to being fully functional, text and all.

it was about 2 hours ~ between the messages ;)

Well, if your usbmemory had an error of some sort that could be a source of the problem ;)

** edit: **

It could very well also be that there was a small error in xeBuild (not the GUI, but the command line utility) which occured due to some random event, i mean maybe you have a very small ram error? that's also a posibility, the GUI itself don't work with the final image, all it does is copy it... that could also be when the error occured, i don't know...

"Doesn't start" what does that mean? no reaction? an error code? what?

Also, what model of machine do you have? what hack do you have? did you verify settings before writing? do you have a log of the flashing process? can you start xell? do you have a xeBuild GUI log?

The avatar/kinect update part you need to bypass the update protection AND start something, as it states in the guide...

Do you connect your console to your TV by HDMI? if so; Try using the "Disable HDMI handshake" patch, that might solve it... otherwise i have no idea what is causing it other then maybe some very very slow USB peripherals (like usb harddrives?)

Not unless you still have it attatched to the console and it takes extremly long for the console to be detected...

What happens if you flash back your previous dump? is it faster? or the same? if it's the same something has probably happend to the chip or the wires to it... if it's faster then there's something that has changed with the patches that deals with how it boots since your previous update and there isn't much you can do about it right now :/

Yes, it's safe, as long as you are 100% sure it's from the same console, did you by any chance activate "nofcrt" patch? if so that might be the cause of your problems with playing "DVD" which i'm guessing you mean it can't play Games? if it can't play DVD Movies that's an entirely different matter, that could be broken laser or simply wrong region for DVD Movies...

Could you send me an e-mail with your dump, log and cpukey? my e-mail is admin[at]swizzy.se (this will give me something to work with to find what's causing the problems you are having)

this time i saved the log and i sent it to your mail.......
what should i do???
should i flash it back to the old nand and download the old update for the avatar and kinect with it or is there a solution??

I'm looking into it, i found a few differences in the bootloaders, i don't know if this will be the cause yet, but i'm going to talk to the team (Team xeBuild) once they wake up and see what this change actually does, if it could be the cause of it all... for now you can just flash back to 15574 (your fully functional dump) and update with the old avatar stuff, that'll give you that support back and everything should hopefully work as before

I think the reason that your game turned back to trial is a dashlaunch option change, there's a function called "contpatch" which i've set to false by default because it can cause problems with certain dlc and such, but you probably had it set to true, so you can change that in your launch.ini and the game should work again, to check you can copy "launch.ini" from flash on your console, or you can start the dashlaunch installer and check what it says about that setting ;)

I'll get back to you when i have a possible solution for you :)

When I follow your guide, the only file that is written is image_00000000.ecc .  I noticed that the build type is ECC (RGH 1.x) when I open my NAND dump and if I change it to Freeboot (RGH 1.x) then it will write updflash.bin.

Is it ok to change that setting and flash with that updflash.bin?

You can flash directly your new createt (Freeboot) updflash.bin to your 360 Device.

Yes, because you loaded a retail image (unhacked) before you put a key in the box it'll select ECC because it thinks you don't have the key and therefor need to aquire it (using XeLL), changing to Freeboot is what you need to do in order to get a hacked dashboard

That's a general problem when you've actually got your drive flashed or something, try using the NOFcrt patch (check "Disable FCRT.bin check" option under "Special Patches" and rebuild) this should fix the problem, if you still can't play your games after this you'll have to contact who ever installed the hack from the beginning and ask them what exactly they did other then install RGH and request for them to send you the retail dump and whatever else you might need to fix it (what they used to build your previous hacked image)

Generally speaking tho it's mostly that the drive has been flashed (and the pcb replaced for hitachi or 1175/1532 liteons) most of the old ones work perfectly fine as is even when flashed... this of course only relates to Slim consoles, if the same thing happens on a Phat console it's generally that someone replaced the key or the drive is simply broken (to test one can write back the dump made before upgrading)

Hi Swizzy,

I have followed the tutorial and think I have managed through everything.

The problem I have though is that everytime I start the Xbox, I get prompted to connect to Xbox live to update the system. How can I get rid of that message?

I have the latest kernel (16203) as well as the latest Avatar update (followed your instructions by using xeBuild Gui) . What am I doing wrong?

When I boot I see my avatar, and I am using Dashlaunch 3,07 with xboxliveblock enabled.

I am also using Xexmenu 1.2 and Fsd3

Do you have a Kinect? if so, you need to run the update again with the kinect attatched... ;)

Do you have a Kinect? if so, you need to run the update again with the kinect attatched... ;)

I did but no go. I think however I find the solution (sort of). Somehow my Dashlaunch had liveblock disabled. I enabled that and now the xbox boots directly into FSD3. Could that have been the reason?

How do I know if I have the latest avatar update? Is there any way to check?

Also, when I installed Dashlaunch 3,07, everytime I launch it, it says that version 3,00 is not compatible with the latest kernel. Why does it say that if I have Dashlaunch 3,07 installed?

There is only 1 AVATAR update version per dashboard... if you read the message carefully it'll tell you what it's for ;)

That's a general problem when you've actually got your drive flashed or something, try using the NOFcrt patch (check "Disable FCRT.bin check" option under "Special Patches" and rebuild)
Will this affect the ability to play game from HDD?

If it doesn't, it is fine if I just ignore this right?

Thank you

Not having the avatar data installed will only cause problems for games using those... the same goes for the kinect update, if it's not updated kinect games won't work etheir...

I am not worried about avatar update as the process is quite easy compare to updating the nxe dash.

I should have make it clearer.

I've updated my slim xbox to 16203, and ever since I can't play games and they are treated as movie discs.

I don't use disc to play, do I need to care about the NOFcrt patch? I am not even sure if the optical drive is modded.

Thanks for all the great stuff you have done for us Swizzy :)

oops, i missed your quote :$

the NoFCRT patch is only for the DVD drive... you should never get them treated as movie discs when playing from HDD as you don't emulate the DVD drive at all...

The most common reasons for game errors are the following:

YES THIS WORKS FOR ALL MODELS AND ALL VERSIONS OF THE HACKS, R-JTAG NEEDS 1 ADDITIONAL THING THO (THAT'S TO PUT "-o patchsmc" IN THE COMMAND LINE SEND TO xeBuild, TO DO THAT YOU NEED TO ENTER ADVANCED MODE AND TICK THE BOX TO EDIT THE ARGUMENT LINE)

one more thing... CAPS on the interwebs is considerd rude as it's like you are yelling...

What do you mean about "a not ok on the check of dashboard version"? if you mean the bottom bar have a red cross instead of a green check mark it's because you haven't selected a valid dashboard version

You've selected "Custom" and haven't written anything in the textbox, this also happens when you didn't unpack ALL the files properly...

Hello, im new here.
Last hours i just update my dashboard from 15574 to 16203.
i update it using Simple 360 NAND flasher and J-RUNNER. Then i have successful to update it with the new 16203 dashboard. The problem is once i update the dashboard my xbox cant read from my xbox dvd drive. the dvd drive is showing ''Video DVD'' and not the game. the game that i already have in the xbox hdd still can play perfectly.
I still have the 15574 flashdmp.bin as the backup. How to flash back to the old one? Can anyone guide me.

You most likely need to also have the nofcrt patch... read the third post of this guide...

If you want to flash your dump back just rename it to "updflash.bin" and simple 360 nand flasher will write it instead of the other one...

I'm sorry for not mentioning that I already did follow the instructions.
I did fix the problem today it was that i had to delete the launch.ini file from my USB and as you mentioned i had to rename the folder $Systemupdate to $$ystemupdate.
And in my last post i said my kernelversion was 2.0.15574.0 but that already was 2.0.16537.0

Status code: 3CD6-4099-1600-0703-C000-0099

The above status code means:
You're current dashboard is: 2.0.15574.0
You're trying to install: 2.0.16537.0
The NTStatus is: STATUS_ALLOTTED_SPACE_EXCEEDED which ussually means you're trying to update a RGH/JTAG with the newer version of patches that block updates even if you disable the block [semi blocking that is, it still asks if you disable it, but it doesn't succeed keeping you safe]

Check 4 things:

1. Make sure the profile file can be opened in a tool of your choice that is able to modify the profile without any errors (if there's an error, you'll need to fix it...)
2. Make sure your Xbox 360 NAND was written properly last update (if you used outdated tools like Flash360 that MAY be the cause of the problem)
3. Make sure you don't have any dashlaunch plugins loaded (these MAY also be the cause of your problem)
4. Make sure your dashlaunch settings don't include setting the profile to dev encryption...

What tool are you talkin about?
I used con flag remover, and USBXTAFGUI v44

I followed your guide, to the bone

3. Make sure you don't have any dashlaunch plugins loaded (these MAY also be the cause of your problem)
Plugins? I dont have any... But let me double check that (its already corrupted, dun think this matters now does it)

4. Make sure your dashlaunch settings don't include setting the profile to dev encryption...
Where can i find this setting in dashlaunch 3.09?

does it have the ability to uncorrupt a profile?
i see that it can transfer save games and stuff

for others, i think while upgrading , should definitely backup profile as well (as part of the consideration), like to an external USB and shift it out of the xbox

I don't think it does, but... if it can load it just fine there is something wonky with your dashboard or possibly something with how your profile is signed or what not... but... if it cannot load your profile it's not a very good sign depending on the exact error... you could send your profile to me and i could have a look at the data, see if i can help you fix it the manual way...

Very detailed guide. I have 2 questions:

1. I have a corona v2 4GB, can I use your setting in "Specific information for Corona with 4GB Internal memory". What happen if I use general setting?
And is there anything else that I must pay attention to when updating dash for my corona v2 except for this?

2. I was quite confused about this one thing as well:
To the software part. I think I am gonna install three things on my rgh:
XEXMENU, FSD, and DASHLAUNCH
XEXMENU and FSD I got it pretty clear so far. XEXMENU is a great file manager, and FSD custom dashboard is great to replace NXE dashboard.
However, about dashlauch, I understood it is primarily used to load FSD at boot. But about how to install it, as I read there are three ways and I am confused which way is the best?
-Install through xebuild gui while creating updflash.bin
-Install through FSD installer
-Install through DashLaunch Installer
What is the difference?

You have a MMC Corona (Corona 4GB) that's the reason for your problems :)

you need to read the section marked with this: "Specific information for Corona with 4GB Internal memory"

That line is only required if you're using your original nand (the one made when you first hacked the console) once you've hacked it and use the current nand as source it's not required as the SMC in it is already patched ;)

hi mate :)
is this guide still current? going to have a bash at it

Yes, it is still current :)

Tried to update from 16203 to 16537 but get the following error when building NAND.

With XeBuild GUI V2.091 gives error listing shown below.

Can someone tell me if this will be a problem when I try to update the console?

For those with the same problem as above, verify that you've updated ALL files (this particular problem was with the "common" folder)

Hi I'm new to this, but I didn't found a question as mine in the last 9 pages of discussion.
I have Xbox360 Corona 4GB and I've flashed 16547 al through the guide until the updates (didn't to them), then I saw the dashLunch supports up to 16537 to I decided to flash 16537. I did all the guide including the updates but now my lunch.ini seems to not work, it doesn't lunch any *.xex that I choose including FreeStyle,Simple 360 NAND Flash and Dash Lunch.
Note: I can still boot to xell reloaded. Thanks for the help

edit: I can't flash new image using the methods you described in the guide.

This is strange, if you installed dashlaunch it should work, and Simple 360 NAND Flasher should work regardless of wether or not Dashlaunch is running... so should F3...

Most methods of writing the NAND don't work on 4GB corona (Simple 360 NAND Flasher is the ONLY tool that can do this apart from hardware flashing)

If you have a CD you can burn XEXMenu or the Dashlaunch installer (default.xex must be in the root!) or you can install XEXMenu (or any other launcher that also works directly from the dashboard) to a USBMU (USB Memory formatted by the console)

Hi, I would like to get some help before I flash my xbox 360 slim *Corona V2 4GB*.
I'm on Dashboard 16202, I would like to go for 16547 for some games purpose.
I read the FAQ parts about DVD-ROM things, I not sure what dvd drive do I have therefore, can I Disable FCRT.bin check first when I build my nand just to prevent the dvd is not working?

You can use the patch to make sure your console will for sure boot, if FCRT.bin is broken/corrupt/missing it'll cause E52/E56, which means you have to reflash using hardware...

FCRT.bin is required by 1175/1532 drives, if it's not there, you can't play games from the DVD-Drive, but that's no big deal, you can just rebuild again without the patch and it'll all be good again :)

You mean I could just tick the Disable FCRT.bin check? and my console will for sure boot?
What do you mean by re-flash using hardware? Sorry I just started on xbox =(
I read few previous pages, You included a Nand checker, I used it to check my nand, but it failed..(Something wrong with the nand file)

Can I have a suggestion from you?
Which ways should I go for to update my dashboard? *without knowing the dvd drive type*

Well, when you first got your console hacked (i'm guessing someone else did it for you?) they connected a MMC card reader to the motherboard of your console and used it to read/write the nand... if the console doesn't start (due to a problem in the nand) you'll need to use the same method again to write back a working nand...

Yes, you could tick it to make sure the console works, however... as you don't know if the drive is a 1175/1532 you can't be sure if the drive will be working (reading game discs)

One way you could do is to start XeLL and look at the output, it should tell you what drive it has connected (it tries to identify it by telling you what it responds as...)

I run with xell, I can't seem to find the dvd drive things, I just know that, it told me unable to read keyvault data from nand..
I tried with Jrunner and Xebuild, It all said my dvd key is 11111111111111111 something like that..
Is that other way to determine my DVD drive other than disassemble it?

Seeing as your DVDKey has been modified it's safe to assume the drive has been replaced... (111.... isn't a valid dvdkey)

In the picture below i've marked the area you should look at to determine drive model, DG16-D5S is the same as having etheir a 1175 or 1532, anything else will be a-ok to use the fcrt.bin patch... etheir way, i'd recommend that you do use the patch seeing as you probably have to...

Thanks for your picture guide =)
Mine is DG-16D4S.

So I just have to go and create my new nand without ticking the FCRT.bin?
E52/E56 Error would not bother me right? As I don't understand about the hardware flashing =(

Actually, tick the box... that way you'll know it'll work, because it disables the FCRT.bin checks in the kernel (if the checks are there and it's corrupt or missing... you'll have problems) DG16-D4S is safe, so is DLN-010 or whatever the hitachi version is (i don't remember right now)

Yes, it's correct, if you used a retail dump you also have to add "-o patchsmc" before output.bin (otherwise xeBuild will complain about it) but, in your case i don't think that's the case ;) (after all, you're updating it and the dvdkey you found is all 1's ;)

Yes, by checking if there's any "launch.xex" and a few other things like if the smc is patched...

However, if you made a dump using Simple 360 NAND Flasher or any other method that doesn't involve a hardware flasher (or mmc card reader connect to the motherboard) it's quite safe to assume that the dump isn't a retail one (all of these methods require that you can run unsigned code which only works on devkits and hacked machines)

Try closing the tray after starting XeLL, if it still get's stuck XeLL isn't going to work for you and you have to use other methods, meaning; let dashlaunch "install" itself, if you are on dashboard 2.0.13146.0 or higher it'll work fine with the latest dashlaunch (3.11), if you're on a lower version, let me know and i'll try to help you out further...

You probably didn't unpack ALL files properly, try unpacking all the files in the .rar file linked in the first post... (for xeBuild GUI 2.092)

check if your "files" folder looks like this, the one next to the exe file...

inside of the folder "16547" you should find this:

if etheir of these pictures don't match what you see, then there's your problem...

If they do match and you still don't get it to work, i have no idea what the heck is going on with your computer, i don't see any reason for this to not work if all files are where they're supposed to be...

Not if you unpacked all the files correctly, it reads the list from "dashfiles.xml" to populate it with the dashboards you can build

Please tell me how did you get the DVD to work on your Corona 4G? I did a NAND update as per the steps here, and I didin't check the fcrt (keep it as default), and I don't know which drive do I have (how to check). So, please tell me how it works with you.
By the way, I am running on 2.0.16547.0, all games works fine from the HDD, but no game works from the DVD. When I start a game it returns me back to main dashboard. Or some games XX are shown as Video DVD!!!
Please help...

This happens when the dvd drive has been replaced mostly, try making a new image with the fcrt patch enabled and all games should work again :)

I don't know if the DVD drive have been replaced. How to know that? I have the original Nand, and the dumped nand.
Just to update you, I made as you suggest and made a new image while checking the "disable fcrt.bin check" and load it in the Xbox and now the DVD works fine. Thanks a lot.

However, how to know if the DVD drive is replaced or not?
By the way.
I have another small issue... please help.
when access the FSD through the Web it is not showing me my CPU Key anymore? it says CPU Key: Not available?????????????????
any reason for that? By the way, the FSD web was showing me the CPU key when the version of Dashboard: 2.0.16202.0. But now version is Dashboard: 2.0.16547.0.
any advice?
Note: powering the xbox using eject, shows me the CPU Key. and it is correct. So, why FSD is not doing so?
Thanks in advance for your time.

Note: I have corona4g, with DG-16D5S 1175

any reason for that? By the way, the FSD web was showing me the CPU key when the version of Dashboard: 2.0.16202.0. But now version is Dashboard: 2.0.16547.0.
any advice?
Note: powering the xbox using eject, shows me the CPU Key. and it is correct. So, why FSD is not doing so?
Thanks in advance for your time.

Note: I have corona4g, with DG-16D5S 1175

Perhaps, Check it with Xell, DashLaunch about the CPU key.. I never use FSD for CPU keys,
I use my dump nand extract to see my dvd key, and it shown 111111111111, and I ask Swizzy here, He have help me with it as it is not a valid DVD key *So it have being replaced* And use Xell to check if your dvd drive is which type and ask it here =) Swizzy would help you about it =)
You might also read few page before about me and Swizzy to get my Corona4G to work on everything =)
Cheers all the best =)

Many thanks.

By the way.

There's been a change in how the CPUKey extraction works in dashlaunch (3.08+ have the new method) i don't know if FSD was updated to handle that... etheir way, that's the most likely reason for it not show properly...

Basically you setting the patch means that the drive has been replaced, if you have a DG16-D5S (1175 or 1532) and XeLL says you have something else, it's a replaced drive... the same goes if the dvdkey is something like all the same number (11.... or 22.... etc.) these are common methods to determine if the drive has been replaced without opening it...

The patch also don't work with 1175/1532 drives... or well... it works... but... games don't (which is the problem you had without it) if fcrt.bin is corrupt or not matching the console you flashed the nand to the drive ussually don't work with games (9504 drives works without a matching fcrt, all others don't on slim i mean)

Hi, Swizzy, I'm planning on downgrade my RGH xbox 360's dashboard version from 16547 to 16537. This is due to some trainers not working at all on latest version of dashboard 16547.

My question is, is it possible to downgrade from 16537 to 16547?
And if yes,
1) Is it the same process as upgrading the dashboard as per your guide?
2) What should I be aware of during the downgrade process?
3) Do I need to download system update 16537 to update the avatar items?

Thanks in advance for your time.

You can always downgrade your device, to low dashboard version. Create your concerned
Dashboard version with XeBuild GUI and flash it.

You need the relevant retail Dashboard version (16537), to get the Avatars back.

1) Yes, it's the exact same process, the difference is that you select a lower version when you build...
2) Nothing special, just select the version you want...
3) Yes, you always have to install the avatar data for the version of dashboard you have installed, newer data don't work with older dashboards and the other way around aswell... (old dashboard can't use newer files)

If you can get someone to get you the latest optional media update you can just unlock it like DLC and it should work again...

thank you... working but videos recorded with my Lumia 920 not playing well, only play first 5 seconds... others downloaded from net working OK... seems MS need new update...

How to use:
Download and unzip attachment

Open \Content\0000000000000000 and then copy the \FFFE07DF\00000002 folders inside there.

just tried, downloading working just fine... no problem... be sure you have latest xeBuild GUI 2.092... and be sure you download update for 2.0.16547.0 (if you updated Dashboard to 16547 version)

This ussually happens when the connection is lost or when the downloaded data for some reason is corrupt..

I'd recommend trying again, take note of the md5 listed... if it stays the same perhaps try disabling your antivirus or so...

There isn't much i can do to improve that feature as it's mostly caused by external things like firewalls, antivirus tools or plain connection errors... (it's downloading from here btw...) you could also try to download it manually using your browser, the link is in the xml's...

Hello. :)
At first, thanks for awesome soft which is XeBuildGUI. I'm using it from the very first build. ;)

Unfortunately I have a problem with my JTAG.
Yesterday I upgraded it to the latest 16747 dash as usually using xeBuildGUI 2.093, but I can't install avatar/Kinect update.
I was doing it many many times before and it was successfull. But from 16547 (previous dash) I can't install this update.
I'm pretty sure I'm doing everything OK. When I put update on my USB memory stick into console I have screen prompt for update.
When console is installing it in the middle of update (approx 50%) pops-up error screen saying that upgrade failed and displaying error code 416B-0000-3000-091C-8007-0070.

I was trying to use different USB flash drives. Always formatted as Fat32, etc., etc.
I even fully uninstalled Dashlaunch and FreeBOOTed my stock dump instead of previous dash dump and error still pops-up.
Can you help me?

CB: 5770
Region: PAL / EU
FCRT Req: False

I'd say try using a different usb memory, and try removing all devices which aren't required for the update (leave only the usb memory and harddrive to install the avatar data to) then try again

the error you get isn't one that i have in my error list, but... i slightly recall a similar issue caused by a bad memory (it may also help doing a "slow" format)

Is there a option to "manually" install avatar update by copying some files directly into flash memory of the Xbox with XeXMenu?

They're stored in "hddsysex" or something like that, with a special structure... you can use dashlaunch and xebuild to do it (not the gui)

I got through everything and flashed the NAND successfully.  When I go to system info it shows dashboard 2.0.16547.0 which is a good sign.  However I also experienced the "game discs recognized as DVDs" issue so I started over and built the NAND this time with the disable FCRT.bin option checked.  Now the discs don't show up even as DVDs.

Do I have to install the official Microsoft SystemUpdate to get things working?  I sort of read that part as meaning you only needed the official update to use avatars and Kinect.

If it doesn't even read the discs i'm voting for a wonky laser or bad discs (perhaps they're very scratchy?)

Check if the previous dump stiln works with discs, if it does i have no idea what's up :(

dont make official update from Microsoft!!!!! use USB stick and with xeBuild_GUI_2.093 download avatar updates (in second post check "Step 8) Installing the Avatar Data"... with this you update avatars and kinect...

Tell us what errors you get, just saying "I'm getting errors" doesn't mean anything to us, it can be any number of errors, we have no idea which one and thus cannot tell you how to fix it... if you give us more information (what specific error you get) we can give you more help

Hi Everyone,

I updated my dashboard to 16747 about 2 months ago and every thing went well, but i didn't check if the games were working with disk. Now i bought some disks and they don't work xbox treats them like movie disks. Even the previous game which use to work don't work any more. i usually play games via usb so didn't thought to check  :'(

i have " XBOX 360 E 2013 Corona RGH2 (dashlaunch showed Glitch2 so i assume its RGH2) "

i saw couple of pages back, a guy had the same issue and admin helped him with it.

i would really appreciate if some one could help  :'(

Try using the patch i mentioned, if you haven't done so already, if you did use it while updating it's probably the cause of your problem

Hello everyone, i am in need of your help, or if you can just point me in the right direction, i bought a xbox 360 slim dualnand, with dashboard 16203, lately I've been trying to update it, using the method on the opening page. First of all, I am new to this, but anyway I tried to flash the updated nand, but every time it finished flashing, when I reboot the console, it is still always on the same dashboard. And another thing, i bought a kinect, I was able to update the avatars and kinect, so it works, the only problem with that is everytime i reboot it goes back to the configuration process. It seems that any changes I made from it, it always revert back to its old state. Hope someone can help me. I don't see any dashlaunch on it, i only have freestyle. Tried installing dashlaunch but screen freezes, when I hit install, so no luck on that one.

You need to get the installation checked, the nand is write protected...

It looks to me like it's a squirt dualboot setup with a corona motherboard, at the very least i can tell you it's rgh 2.0 ;)

I don't personally know how these installs goes as i've never done one myself (i've installed cygnos v2, tx demon and mtx trident, but never squirt dualboot)

** Edit: **

After logging on from my computer i noticed you didn't link to all pics from your library, and from there i can tell it's a trinity (you have the HANA chip) trinity can be etheir RGH 1 or RGH 2, but... in the end, they're both the same, so... it doesn't really matter what you select there (both RGH 1 and RGH 2 will work)

The point you want to be looking at is WP, if it's not properly connected (according to the Squirt diagrams) that's the cause of your problem...

** edit 2: **

http://360squirt.com/downloads/SQUIRT_DIAGRAMS_220114.zip (http://360squirt.com/downloads/SQUIRT_DIAGRAMS_220114.zip) <--- here you have the diagrams you'll need to be looking at...

Your log tells me that the xell files weren't where they should be, you need to unpack ALL files before you run the tool... and... it never started xebuild, it failed during the preperations which is why you never got the editor to pop up, it pops up just before it is about to launch xebuild ;)

Hi Swizzy,

I have an XBox Slim RGH, Trinity.
Recently I upgraded to dash 16547. Before that I was on 16203. When I insert original game DVDs in the console, they are read as Movie DVDs. Using Xebuild I came to know that the KV of my original flashdmp.bin file shows FCRT.BIN option set to true.

From the details in previous message of this email, I came to know that I need to disable the FCRT.BIN option from Xebuild and generate the Hack image to be flashed on the console.

Done that but still no luck!
When I open the updflash.bin file in Xebuild and check it's KV it again shows it as FCRT.bin is still set to TRUE.

I am stuck, seem to be doing everything correctly. But still I can only watch movies DVDs. Original Geme DVDs are also read and treated as game DVDs.

Please help!

Thanks,
Babu

Send me your original nand + key and i'll check it closer... 9 out of 10 cases like this have swapped drives, that's when the nofcrt patch is required, the fact that your keyvault have the same flags are normal, that's where this info comes from btw ;)

The dump shall be sent to swizzy@xeupd.com

What DVD Drive works in your Xbox 360 ?
These special function (removes FCRT.bin ) doesnt work on all DVD Drives.

It works on all drives except for when the console still have it's original 1175 or 1532 liteon... few know if that's really the case as most get their console modded by someone else whom don't really supply all details like this... and anyone doing the mod themselves ussually don't need this guide/tutorial in the first place...

That also works yes, an e-mail you usually send with your own client such as gmail.com, hotmail.com, outlook, thunderbird etc.

I'll check it out as soon as i'm back at my computer again, had a quick glance at the log/screenshot, both tell me the image(s) should be working just fine, what tool did you use to write the image? I'd recommend using simple 360 nandflasher as it writes the image as-is and doesn't change anything, this is the recommended way of doing it as xebuild deals with  badblocks etc. For you... old tools like flash360 might also work, but they might also fail... so i highly don't recommend those anymore...

The XeBuild GUI (version) that you use, is not official Version from the XeBuild Team. Use it on your
own risk.

First of all, i haven't made an update for 16767, netheir has the xeBuild Team...

Second; you  don't want to generate a ECC, where in this guide did you see this selected?!

I follow the guide to update my 360s freebot (corona 4g). Dumped the nand with 360 simple nand flasher 1.4b. When i try to create the update with xebuild gui 2.093 (following swizzy's tutorial for corona 4g) and put the cpukey (readed from txt created by simple nand flasher and verified in dashlaunch) the program return an error:

If you set the correct hack & console type, XeBuild GUI constructed for you a propper Image. The error Message is normal, in your case (4G).

It is normal that you get those errors, because it doesn't know how to handle 4g corona dumps, therefor it doesn't get the correct data, at some point i will finish up xeBuild GUI 3.0 with full support for 4g corona consoles aswell...

First check your Dashlaunch settings. (livestrong should be disabled, otherwise you cant download Screenshots & Cover Arts, if its enabled together with Live Block). Second check your Network Connection Settings in NXE Dashboard. Presumably you have some  mismatched WiFI-Settings.

Since netheir 16756 nor 16767 has been officially released by the xeBuild team i'm not going to give you any support for those versions, however... you're incorrect in saying that all Xbox 360 E is v6...

Corona v1, v3, v5 are the NAND Model(s) (v5 here is Xbox 360 E)
Corona v2, v4, v6 are the MMC Model(s) (v6 here is Xbox 360 E)

If you want support, use xeBuild GUI (as i show in the tutorial here) and enable the "Disable FCRT.bin Checks" patch... this patch will probably solve the issue for you, if it doesn't, then you shouldn't have that patch enabled... and, if it doesn't work no matter what, send me your dumps and key and i'll check what's going on to see if i can get it to work, keep in mind tho... i only offer support up to 16747 right now, when we release higher versions i'll support those aswell, but until then it's unofficial garbage which haven't been properly tested...

I told you, you should check your network settings in NXE Dashboard !
If your Network Settings are mismatched (wrong IP Range and so on),
you cant connect to any network.

Hello guys

First of all I'd like to thank you for the work on Xebuild, which is a great software.

I write here as I have a strange issue with my x360 (Xenon with cygnos v2)
In fact I just followed the tutorial to update to latest dash (I was on 13...)

Everything went fine (my NAND has 1 bad block but I was told its not a big issue), but in the end when I reboot console, it comes on FSD with a downgraded screen resolution (maybe 640x480).
It would be a simple matter, going to NXE and change screen settings - but the issue is I CANT get to NXE :)
In fact whenever I try to back to NXE I get a black screen (using the blade, or pushing associated shortcut of dashlaunch).

I tried alternatively flashing the NAND with Xell, nandflasher, cygnos toolbox...nothing changes.

I then tried to restore my previous NAND, which works but...I can't go on NXE again too....
This is very annoying as everything else is working (games etc launch properly, except in 640x480) and I actually just need to change the resolution to HD.

SO what do you think, should I put that xbox to trash? lol

Thanks

The Message mean that blocks are marked as bad. If XeBuild (GUI) give you the same message (build log), its safe for you.

Hey, I have a corona 4gb and a corrupt NAND (i.e. the console doesn't boot but the green light is on forever) Xell is working fine and I followed all the instructions to create a NAND but when I try to flash with xell (obviously my only option since I'm broke and the console won't boot) it says executing and then the screen goes blank as if the HDMI was disconnected. Any idea? Much appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. To be honest I'm a complete noob and I don't have any clue about my xbox other than it is corona and I have the CPU key and DVD key. I made a NAND from a donor and followed the instructions carefully for 4gb corona. I have no idea how to check for bad blocks or remap (just know the terminologies from excessive googling) and I have no idea about the hardware inside. I only have the option to reflash NAND from XELL Reloaded. I tried googling bad blocks etc. but couldn't find anything I could do to check. Any help would be appreciated.
*EDIT* Used the latest version of J-runner, opened the updflash.bin file and got the CPU key from IP and clicked Bad Blocks. It says 'No Bad Blocks.'

Yes sir, forgot to mention that. And I had to disconnect my dvd to get this far in XELL. After executing it just goes blank on analog too. And if it helps, when I try to extract the dump I get one error Failed to find fcrt.bin Everything else is extracted.

Sorry it was my fault. You cant flash a MMC Xbox 360 from Xell. Its support currently only read from eMMC, but not flashing.
You need a hardware flasher to bring you Image to your Xbox 360.

I'm sorry that the answer is negative, but Xell allowed currently only the flash of Nand consoles, but not eMMC machines. I guess that you'll find someone next to You, who flashes your Image on your 360 with a hardware flasher.

good luck.  :)

Hello, I didn't want to post a new thread for the problem I am having.

Basically, I was trying to update my RGH Trinity and it worked but the console demands an Update. I have downloaded several updates (16767,17150,17349) but the rgh still tries to download the update.

I have tried renaming the system update folder to:
$SystemUpdate
$$ystemUpdate
$systemupdate
$$ystemupdate

Nothing works.

I do have a suggestion that might be worth doing? Instead of having to download the update via Xebuild, can you make it so you can select it via file browser? Just a suggestion!

Back to the problem, Im currently trying to update to 17150, the current kernal is 16767.
I can boot a game, no update. I can NOT boot into F3. I CAN boot into Xell-Reloaded.

Im trying to re-write my nand with the 17150 kernal and 17150 update.

I'm guessing the "Prepare Drive" option is extracting the update? So I can put the update on a USB drive with Simple NAND flasher and the updflash.bin and it should be good?

Been trying this for 3 days now :'(

If you have created your RGH Image, move it to FAT32 formatted USB Stick together with the XEX from Swizzys Simple Nand flasher. Let certain your RGH Update is renamed to updflash.bin. Connect the USB Stick to your 360 and execute the XEX on your USB Stick. Swizzys Simple Nand Flasher should launch, and detect the updflash.bin. Flash the Image to your 360.

If you have successful flash your RGH Image (updflash.bin), download the Retail 17150 Update, extract the rar and rename it to $$ystemUpdate
and move it to your FAT32 formatted USB 2.0 Stick. Connect it to your 360 and boot it up normally. The 360 should recognize the Update
and install it.

P.S:

If your 360 doesnt boot in alternative dasboard like FSD, Aurora, burn XEXMenu without intermediate folder on a DVD. You can use the XEMenu
(it contains a File Manager) to execute the Simple Nand Flasher.

Thanks for the reply Dr. Gonzo.

I have done all that and nothing happened. I did, however, find a way to fix the update.

I used rawflash v4 with a nanddump.bin file, Created my image with the 17349 kernal and appropriate update. Since Simple Nand Flash wouldn't even let me dump my nand. This was my last option before giving up!

Now on 17349!

That's odd, i've never seen/heard of not being able to dump, unless you run it from a cd/device with no memory left

17349 isn't officially supported, so any issues you have with it you'll have to solve on your own...

If you connect to Xbox Live with RGH Unit, you get banned. The only exceptions are Dual Boot 360s in retail Mode. You can push your DVD eject Button, whether the Xbox 360 is booting in Xell, or try to boot some Homebrew stuff. To check, which DVD Flash is on your Xbox 360, you have to readout your 360 DVD Firmware with Jungle Flasher Tool.

Maybe you have a little to wait. Once the name of the Game DVD is visible in NXE (tile) Dashboard, you have to press X (Game Details). A new Dashboard Screen (Overview) should pops up with two options, playing now & install.

You have probably flashed a faulty Image (Did you ever looked into the XeBuild log ?) to your JTAG/RGH Unit. If you dont have access to Xell, you have to flash your correct JTAG/RGH Image, with a hardware flasher to your 360 Unit.

Not only that, he's built and flashed a Slim nand to a Phat console :) xeBuild GUI doesn't know about the 9188 MFG bootloader, it assumes that any 9188 == Trinity...

Your correct model is most likely Jasper, as you have 93450C as a drive... they only came with Jaspers...

Yes, but your DVD Model doesn't exist on Slim (Trinity) it's a Phat model which leads me to suspect that you have a Jasper (the last model before Trinity)

It's wierd that your KV says it's a DG-16D2S FW: 93450C while your MFR Date says it should be a DG-16D4S FW: 0225

Hey Swizzy, first and foremost, thanks for your amazing job, and all the guys that develop this tools.

I'm currently trying to update my kernel (I've been told that the "fatal error intercepted" midst game can be fixed with this), however I've realized that my kernel is already at 17349, and the new dash update (17489) "just came out". should I flash my nand (17349) with an "updated" or fixed 17349 or is there really no benefit whatsoever?

Should I wait for an updated XeBuild?

I had already:
-I got the nand with simple nand flasher
-I already got the key and everything
-The LDV value had to be especified manually as the kv check and tiping the Cpu key didn't make it appear automatically
-Selected Xell reloaded
-Created the updNand image
But One thing kept me from proceding.

When getting the cpu key I ran into some problems, connecting any usb periperal would crash what I believed to be Xell, upon research i found that instead of Xell, I've got a variation? (360 Usb auto-dumper by blackcat), could this be a decisive factor as if, doing a nand flash could brick my system?
(given that i'm using Xebuild instead of AutoGG, and Xebuild will try to update Xell to your version,  I tried to update manually Xell with 0.993, before knowing it wasn't Xell, but got red screen, upon removing all usb devices i was able to read cpu key and LDV value and realize what it really was)

TL:DR: Should I try to update BlackCats xell? do the full Nandflash+updBlackcats Xell with autoGG?

I'm currently trying to update my kernel (I've been told that the "fatal error intercepted" midst game can be fixed with this)

Fatal Crash Intercepted can not only be connected to a outdated Dashboard. In the most cases  wrong Dashlaunch Settings, or Dashlaunch Plugins, bad & corrupted Game Data could be the reason too.

I see, I will try to reinstall the games that present said error. However that is the pecularity of my situation. I can play all the games I've installed so far, and access all the functions of my xbox, the "fatal error intercepted" has only appeared midst gameplay, and only with certain titles (namely GTA IV, Halo wars), there's also the fact that I do not run FSD and thus neither do have Dashlaunch.

The only thing missing in my sistem is the avatars and this is what I suspect to be a possible culprit for said error appearing, however as the avatar update availible at xbox.com is beyond my dashboard version, I've been told against trying to update.

What options do I have.
Do you by any chance have a copy of the 17349 avatar update?
Could I/would be safe to install an older avatar update from a grame disc?
Should I just shrug it off and wait?

You can try to install the Avatar Data again. You can use our  17349 Systemupdate we have stored in HC Database.
Sometimes it helps to delete all the stuff in the cache folder too.

That's incorrect, this message ONLY appears when Dashlaunch is installed and you have "exechandler" enabled

No, no, the message appeared Mid game, not launching the Xbox I truly have no Idea what could have caused it. (but I suspect is corrupt data as the DR. said, will have to find another copy of the game)

But I hadn't had the problem again since I updated the avatar patch, admitedely havent played it much and will have my camera ready if you are interested and happens again.

Thanks again for everything.

Okay...thank you for the quickly answer..just one thing, can i deleet the Rgh ? it can run with out ?

You can separate the RGH solder joints, and flash your retail Image back again.  After that ,you can then use them as regular console again.

You need a Hardware Flasher to flash your Image back. Perhaps you have near you a modding shop, or you find someone which  takes over the work for you.

Well, when it happens mid-game it's 9 out of 10 times either a bug in the game causing it (fixed by a TU, or even caused by a TU at times) or corrupt/modified data... check your game data!

Sometimes not having the Avatar data installed will cause problems in games, so it's always a good idea to install it... and yes, the message is like i said a part of Dashlaunch... it's not a message that appears on a retail/original Xbox 360

That's exactly the reason I was looking to do the Avatar Update, some people and tutorials had lead me to that way. If the problem is not fixed will try the TU and will check the game data for integrity.

TY very much for your attention.

Unimportant: I know the error code is not from a retail console but I don't have dashlaunch as an active software component on the console. I just got the rgh, configured a brand new HDD as internal and installed xexmenu. Been running everything from there but at this point I see it may be easier to work with the full "standard" pack of programs Dashlaunch, FSD, F3.

That's the thing, Dashlaunch isn't installed on your HDD, it's installed in your NAND, and the error is part of Dashlaunch... what you call "Dashlaunch" is actually the installer/configurator, which isn't required to be on the HDD for Dashlaunch to work, it's only used to change the settings once DL is installed...

Hi Swizzy!
I'm here only to thank you.
I read your tutorial and almost every page here about 3 times and finally got my Corona V2 4g updated, with avatars and kinect working by first time!! (it is in the family for about 3 years). Had many errors while doing it, but I found every answer here.
I updated from 16537 to 17489, couldn't find my CPUkey first (tried many possibilities but as written by you, hell yeah!, it was my dashlaunch... had 3.07!)
Than finally got it, dumped my flash, went to xeBuild and voila... gave me an error about size.. but lucky me, your guide provide a step by step process and worked like a charm, in my first shot.
Then updated with $$ystemUpdated and kinect connected, and yes... best day ever!!

So thank you, thank you and thank you Swizzy and every wonderful member that made this possible! :D

Trying to follow this guide to update the kernel/dashboard on my RGH.
Followed step one, but ran into a message about a bad block.
Is this going to be a problem?

Going ahead onto step 2 anyway.
I shut down my 360 and turned it back on by pressing the eject button to boot into Xell.
Got my CPU Key on screen, and managed to pick it up over the network with xeBuild GUI too.

Onwards to step 3 now!
Everything seems to check out properly here.
It suggest Jasper 16MB, and I know my machine is a Jasper, so that's good.
I've selected Jasper 16MB on the left side now.
I know I have RGH1.X, but I don't know if I should select ECC or Freeboot. Is there an easy way to find out?

I've updated the tutorial with some additional information, the badblock you're seeing is nothing to worry about as it's just a single one, you're going to want to select Freeboot as the image, i've updated the table to reflect that :)

Wonderful, thanks!
I've flashed the NAND now, and it worked without any problems.
Got 2.0.17489.0 now when I check through NXE.

Getting ready to do the Avatar step now. Just waiting for it to download.

Seen a lot of mentions of Dashlaunch in your guide, even the "Include Dashlaunch" option in xeBuild GUI. I don't really know what Dashlaunch is though, or how to access it.
Reading up about Aurora, it says you should use Dashlaunch to set desired temperature levels instead of messing with fan speeds directly like you could in FSD.
Sounds like Dashlaunch is pretty useful. Is there a guide I can read on how to access and use it?

Edit:
Avatar step complete. I guess that's everything done then!
I did some searching and I think I've got a handle on Dashlaunch now.
I've downloaded the installer for 3.16, and I believe I can run that to change the settings since Dashlaunch was already included in the NAND image I built from the guide.
Thanks for all your help!

Edit Again:
Got Dashlaunch and Aurora all sorted out now.
Spent a while deleting the old now useless Quickboot links and everything is looking very nice now.
Love that Table CFL. It's nice to be able to navigate the game list in two dimensions instead of just one.

Hi guys
I just got my kernel upgrade 17489. I did the $$ystemupdate to get back my avatars. But my kinect still ask me to update.
I did the "avatar procedure" without kinect. When i inserted the usb stick it asks me to update, which i did and everthing went fine...
I try now to do the same with kinect connected but when i inster the usb stick, it recognize it but doesn't ask anymore for update (probably because i already did it).
Anyway to force the $$ystemupdate ?
Thnak you

Hi everybody.
I have a Trinity RGH. Recently, I dumped the nand and there is a bad block in it. This is the text which is showed in J-runner when I loaded my nand:
• Bad Block ID @ 0x29D [Offset: 0xAC7A00]
• Bad Block ID @ 0x29D Found @ 0x3FF[Offset: 0x107BE00]
When I update to the lastest dashboard (17489), the guide button is useless - not function at all. On any dashboard below 17489, everything works fine.
I've tried both J-runner and xeBuild to build my nand. Both of them show the same error on 17489.
I wonder if anybody had the same problem? How can I fix it?
Thank you very much.
Ps: I've tried to solve problem by the donor nand method. Then I get a clean nand without bad block in it. But when I flashed it to the console, the flashing screen still showing that there is bad block at 0x29D and writing error 0x0...0210 (I don't remember exactly how many "0" in it  ;D)

"ERROR: Can't determine it block is too big or too small...(this is a sign that your nand is not properly dumped)" wtf!. when dumping the nand everything was fine (48mb) .-. It doesn't let me view nothing in the image viewer in tools. Also, when I updated the file I didnt change the kernel version on xeGUI (default was 17502) and I have 17489 does it matter or not? I wont update nothing till some one answer. Also, I have a corona v2 4g.

The error message occurs, because XeBuild GUI can not handle 4G Images at these time. Check out the Guide, under Step 4 (Specific information for Corona with 4GB Internal memory), and read it carefully.

You are sure, that you have placed your created XeBuild Image 2.0.17502 on your USB Stick ?
Its could be also possible, that your MMc on your Corona is write protect.

Hello guys...Just need a little advice please @ swizzy or any reputable With the knowledge.
I have my original Nand dump from a Jasper BB xbox 360   I Jtagged in 2011 ,I used aud clamp method
I have update the dash  periodically over the years using various auto update methods as I became lazy...and it was easy...I have never really had any problems ,but recently I am experiencing  more sporadic  fatal crash intercepted error after a 17502 auto dash update...So I am planning on making a fresh nand image to flash...So I know it will be a clean image ,as its time I feel for a fresh clean final image flash.
My question is although this Jtag is now on the latest official 17502 version ..Can I create a fresh  Nand image from my original nand dump using xeBuild_GUI_2.098 ? Without any problems? I have all my original dumps and info. I will be using SMC Hack option Aud_clamp
inserting my CPU key and generating the Nand,Then will update the Avatars and so on after.

Please look at the capture and let me know if all looks ok? Do I need to adjust any further  options?
like in the special patches section or anywhere else?
I will be planning on flashing the new created image via xexmenu and using flash 360 to flash the image.

Thanks for any help or advice Guys,

It looks good, but for flashing use Swizzy Simple Nand Flasher please. Flash 360 is outdated.

Its important to take a look in the XeBuild GUI log for error messages, before you flash your Image to your Xbox 360. If there are no error messages and you habe choose the correct settings, you get in most cases no problems.

Thanks mate yes I checked ...I did have a error using the fullnand 270 bin file  ,concerning the validity of the CF LDV  ....in the log it assigned 1.... which I checked with the   fullnand 67 bin fill ,which the log reported no errors & assigned .CF LDV 2 ....I also check with the very 1st nand I created with freeboot (which worked fine) and that also reported no errors ,But assigned  CF LDV 2.
So I am pretty  sure to used the fullnand.bin 67MB file CF LDV 2 , and hopefully nothing goes wrong when I flash it.

Thanks again for all your time and help Mate.

One more thing ,if you can spare. Do you recommend inclusion of the dashlaunch plugin  in the created xeBuild GUI version 2.098  file or would you go for a manual install? after.

Thanks

Regards,

You can do as you want, it makes no difference.

Personally, i recommend including it at build-time, and just download the fuses from xell and it'll get the appropriate LDV for you automatically...

For best "solution" in your case i would recommend going a bit further tho, dump current nand using hardware, erase the nand 2 times (all of it) so nandpro usb: -e512 twice, then build a nand using the settings to not remap the image, writing that and taking note of what blocks failed to write followed by remapping those manually (or dumping again and rebuilding using that image) followed by writing the resulting image...

This makes your console really start fresh... once you've confirmed it's fully functional you can delete everything except for your key and the last image you wrote

Hi People!

Need some help!
I'm a complete noob and I have been trying to fix my Jtagged Xbox 360 since ages now. I got it jtagged about 2 years back and did not realize that no plugins worked on it except a few games that I used to play. No plugins, no live, nothing has worked ever since. I gave up on it and put it back. Now I have to give it to my younger brother who's after my life. However, I can't figure out a way to update the dash. Everytime I switch it on, I get the pop up asking me to update the Xbox which keeps coming back every 3 minutes.

I have dumped my NAND profile and from xeBuild GUI, I'm not able to go further. I have also in the last few hours manager to find my CPU key. Thanks to your forum.

I would just like to know:

1. What do I do if my Kernel Version is greyed out in the xeBuild GUI?
Although I just installed FSD3 and in the system settings I found my Kernel Version which is - 16747. Is it too outdated? Can I still update it?

2. Also, the build type and Motherboard columns are auto-populated with radio buttons on Freeboot (RGH 2.0) and Corona respectively. Do I still have to check them from somewhere and change them?

3. There is no Keyvault information as well, so the Check KV button is also greyed out. What should I do about that?

4. After keying in the the CPU key, everything in the bottom bar now has a green check next to it. But when I click Generate Hacked Image, it gives me the following error:

Can't find cf_16747.bin or su20076000_00000000 (required for all except for devkit) nor se_16747.bin (required for devkit) in the data folder!

Please help!

PS: For the time being, I'd also settle for just plugins working, like youtube etc. A few games are already working.

Thank you!

At first you have a RGH not a JTAG Xbox 360.

Did you download XeBuild GUI from a trusted source (like HC) ?
XeBuild GUI cant handle Corona Images, thats the reason it didnt show you any information about your Keyvault data. Take a look into the Guide on the first site "Step4 Specific information for Corona with 4GB Internal memory", there are special Infos, how you build a RGH Image for your Xbox 360 Corona.

Dr. Gonzo, you the man!!  ;D

Thanks, I've finally been able to move forward and now have a updflash.bin using the step 4 that you so kindly referred me to.

However, when I do try to flash that updated bin file with my nand flasher (which I downloaded from HC), I get the text, "You are about to flash image that don't contain spare data to a machine that requires it. Press start continue if you know what you are doing."

When I continue. It gives me an error.

Error game:\updflash.bin - size 50331648 is not a valid image size,

And then 5....4.....3.....2......1 shuts down.

Can you tell me what I am doing wrong?  :(

You built a Corona4G image for a non-Corona4G console (are you sure you have a Corona in the first place? if so - it's NOT a 4G model and should be natively supported by xeBuild GUI without any special tricks)

Thank you Swizzy for your reply.

I'm not sure if I have a Corona. I have no clue how to find it out as well. I followed step 4 to the t.

Is there a way to find out what model I have? Sorry for the stupid question.

Let xeBuild GUI decide for you, does it not decide for you? then take a look at the CB field, that it should show you, then take a look in the table listed in the guide
